Heading Home: The Tale of Team Israel

  • Embassy of Israel 5612 Connecticut Avenue Northwest Washington, DC, 20015 United States (map)

In this documentary, Team Israel is finally ranked among the world’s best in 2017, and they’re eligible to compete in the prestigious World Baseball Classic. Their line-up includes several Jewish American Major League players like Davis, Josh Zeid and ex-Braves catcher Ryan Lavarnway. With their Mensch on the Bench mascot by their side, the team laughs, cries, and does much soul-searching as they discover the pride of representing Israel on the world stage. Following the film, we’ll be joined by guests to discuss Jewish athletes in film and how their lives and stories have been adapted for the big screen.

After the film, we’ll take a deeper look into the world of sports, faith, and film. We’ll be joined by one of the filmmakers behind HEADING HOME and Aviva Kempner, whose film THE LIFE AND TIMES OF HANK GREENBERG tells the story of America’s first Jewish baseball star.
